The secret power of the thousand waters' water

Based on Archimedes and his Principle, António Mega Ferreira wrote about the «secreto poder da água de mil águas» («secret power of the water of a thousand waters» our translation) that gives the title to the curatorial proposal that we present at Arco Lisboa 2025.

To this phenomenon that raises hot air balloons or that sustains bodies in the water, the papers that Rui Soares Costa deposits in the Tagus River and those of Rita Gaspar Vieira that in a liquid state are poured onto the floor of her studio can be added. Both processes, although in opposite directions — undoing/doing —, or perhaps not so opposite, address, on the one hand, the formal issue of paper and water, sustainability and the use of resources, and, on the other hand, how the becoming of water, and consequently of time, is registered in this medium. Drawings made with water in which the ground or the river are used as repositories of memory and as supports for the creative process.

O secreto poder da água de mil águas

A partir de Arquimedes e do seu Princípio, António Mega Ferreira escreveu o «secreto poder da água de mil águas» que intitula a proposta curatorial que apresentamos na Arco Lisboa 2025.

A esse fenómeno que eleva os balões de ar quente ou que sustenta os corpos na água, juntemos os papéis que Rui Soares Costa deposita no rio Tejo e os de Rita Gaspar Vieira que, em estado liquido, são vertidos sobre o chão do seu atelier. Ambos os processos, ainda que em sentidos contrários — desfazer/ fazer —, ou talvez não tão opostos quanto isso, abordam, por um lado, a questão formal do papel e da água, da sustentabilidade e do aproveitamento de recursos, e, por outro lado, de como o devir da água, e consequentemente do tempo, é registado neste suporte. Desenhos feitos com água em que se recorre ao chão ou ao rio como repositórios de memória e como suportes do processo criativo.
