This could be a ship, suspended above water. It has many mirrors. It's a ship that floats, as if levitating, higher than the water. A ship that carries contemporaneity and its contradictions – a place of contemplation as we face the abyss.
During six hours (almost) nothing happens, apart from the rising tide of the Tagus water approaching the house-structure, the hammock. This could be the relaxed, frivolous, loosen way in which we face the contemporary dynamics, from the Anthropocene, to the Climate Crisis, namely the rising sea level. But can we make the water drop, as with a lowering tide? From the blurriness of darkness, into the clarity of light? Is there a way out, still?
But this is not an easy ship, perhaps that is why “When it gets to the city / no pier will shelter it”. “Voices and an heavy air / it is all it carries”. “Until the end of the world”.
Rui Soares Costa & André Gonçalves (RSC & AG) started to work on video as a duo in 2024.

Este é um navio, suspenso acima da água, com muitos espelhos. Um navio que flutua, como que levitando, por cima da água. Navio que transporta a contemporaneidade e as suas contradições – é um navio de contemplação perante o abismo.
São seis horas em que quase nada se passa, para além da maré do Tejo que sobe e se aproxima da estrutura-casa, da cama-de-rede. Como que representando a forma relaxada, leviana, descontraída com que encaramos as dinâmicas contemporâneas, de um Antropoceno, à Crise Climática, passando pela subida do nível médio das águas do mar. Mas será que da mesma forma que a maré sobe, poderemos fazê-la descer? Da indefinição da escuridão, à lucidez da luz? Será que ainda há uma saída?
Este não é um navio fácil, talvez por isso “Quando chega à cidade / nenhum cais o abriga”. “Vozes e ar pesado / é tudo o que transporta”. “Até ao fim do mundo”.
Rui Soares Costa & André Gonçalves iniciam o seu trabalho em vídeo enquanto dupla de artistas (RSC & AG) em 2024.
